Critter Pop TD: Grand Garden Place critters · upgrade two paths · tier 3 unlocks an ability

Bloons TD 5 Unblocked searches usually come from players who remember the fifth game as the high point of the Flash era: two upgrade paths per tower, activated abilities and a long road to freeplay. Ninja Kiwi released it as a browser game in December 2011. It then moved to phones, Steam and consoles, and it is still sold on Steam today.

Below you will find what made that entry special and how it differs from the games before and after it. You also get strategy that carries over to any balloon tower defense. The game above is Critter Pop TD: Grand Garden, igame9’s original browser game in the same spirit. It has nine garden critters with two upgrade paths of four tiers, an ability for each critter, five maps, 50 waves and endless freeplay. It shares the mechanics, not the monkeys, art or names.

How to play Bloons TD 5 Unblocked

  1. Press ▶ Play and pick a map and a difficulty. The maps run from Sunny Meadow (Beginner) to Twin Burrows (Expert), where balloons come down two separate paths. Easy, Medium and Hard each award their own medal.
  2. Buy a critter and place it on free grass beside the path. Squirrels, hedgehogs and snails are cheap early answers. The Mole Miner digs up coins every wave. The Lantern Moth is a support critter: anything in its glow can see hidden balloons and gets extra range.
  3. Each critter has two upgrade paths of four tiers. Only one path can go past tier 2, so a 4/2 split is the maximum. Choose a role: a burr-fan squirrel or a long-range pinecone squirrel, an acid snail or a frost snail.
  4. Your first tier-3 upgrade on a critter unlocks its ability, such as Burr Blitz, Seed Barrage, Talon Strike or Full Moon. Trigger it from the critter panel, the round buttons in the ability bar or V. Each one then recharges.
  5. Win all 50 waves for the medal, then choose Freeplay to keep going. Balloons there get tougher and faster every wave, and your best wave is recorded for the map.

Bloons TD 5 Unblocked tips & strategy

  • Buy a Mole Miner early. At $900 it digs four $20 coins every wave, and its Trade path adds end-of-wave cash and interest. Two moles bought before wave 15 can pay for your whole late game.
  • Pick the 4/2 split on purpose. Take the two cheap tiers of the second path first. Night Goggles on a squirrel, Quick Wings on an owl or Long Lob on a beetle all cost little and fix real weaknesses.
  • One Lantern Moth solves hidden balloons for a whole cluster. Put it in the middle of your best corner. With Reveal Dust, hidden balloons that drift through the glow lose their cover for every critter on the map.
  • Save abilities for whales. Cloud Whales arrive from wave 28 and the first Storm Whale at wave 44. Talon Strike deals 500 damage to the strongest balloon, and Seed Barrage plus Slime Flood buy time for everything else.
  • Tin needs heavy damage. Beetles, Storm Fireflies, Hot Quills, Steel Talons, Wasp Escorts and a Beacon moth all pop metal balloons. Sharp burrs just bounce off.
  • Use targeting modes. Set owls to Strong so they focus Jumbos and whales. Leave squirrels on First, and snails will look for balloons that aren’t slimed yet on their own.

What Bloons TD 5 was and where it went

Bloons TD 5 was the fifth tower defense game in Ninja Kiwi’s balloon-popping series. The Flash version went live on 13 December 2011 and was played on Ninja Kiwi’s site and on web game portals. Mobile versions for iOS and Android followed on 15 November 2012. A Mac release came in 2013, and a Steam version for Windows and macOS launched on 19 November 2014. Console ports reached Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2017 and Nintendo Switch in 2018.

The Flash edition got its last update in December 2018. In July 2020, months before browsers dropped Flash, it was re-released inside the free Ninja Kiwi Archive, a downloadable app for classic titles. Its daily challenges, special missions and co-op were switched off there in 2022. The Steam version is still on sale. Its store page lists 21 towers, Special Agents, Specialty Buildings, more than 90 tracks, daily challenges and co-op.

The systems that defined the fifth game

  • Two upgrade paths, four tiers each. Every tower had eight upgrades split into two paths. Only one path could go past tier 2, which forced a real choice for each tower.
  • Activated abilities. Most towers gained an ability you trigger yourself on a cooldown, usually with a tier-4 upgrade. Timing them for the hardest rounds was a big part of high-level play.
  • Special Agents. One-use helpers bought between games, such as a spy that grants camo detection, plus “Pro” versions after repeated purchases.
  • Specialty Buildings and the Monkey Lab. Permanent boosts for one tower type at a time, and, outside the Flash version, a lab where tokens upgrade towers further.
  • Difficulty and freeplay. On the Flash version, Easy, Medium and Hard ended at rounds 50, 65 and 85. After the final round you could keep going in freeplay until you ran out of lives.

Many players still rate the fifth game as the sweet spot: deep enough to plan, simple enough to read at a glance. Critter Pop TD: Grand Garden borrows that shape — two paths, a 4/2 limit and abilities — with its own critters and balloons. For a lighter version with three maps and 30 waves, see the classic balloon TD page.
