Bloons TD Unblocked is what people type when they want Ninja Kiwi’s balloon-popping tower defense in a browser tab: no install, no app store, just a page that loads on a laptop or school Chromebook. The series began as free Flash games in 2007 and grew into one of the best-known tower defense franchises, with Bloons TD 6 on phones, PC and consoles today.
This page covers where the series came from, what “unblocked” really means and how the strategy works. Above it you can play Critter Pop TD, igame9’s own take on the formula. Garden critters such as a slingshot squirrel, a spiny hedgehog and a barn owl pop layered balloons over 30 waves on three maps. It is an original game in the same style, not a copy of the original, and it runs in any modern browser.
How to play Bloons TD Unblocked
- Press ▶ Play, choose one of three maps (Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced) and a difficulty. Easy gives 200 lives and 15% cheaper critters; Hard gives 100 lives and faster balloons.
- Pick a critter in the panel and place it on a free grass tile next to the path. You can’t build on the path, on water or on rocks. On a phone, tap a tile to preview the range circle, then tap the same tile again to place.
- Press ▶ Wave (or Space). Balloons float along the path toward the burrow. Each layer you pop pays $1, and every cleared wave pays a bonus of $100 plus a little extra per wave.
- Tap a placed critter to open its panel. Each one has two upgrade paths with two tiers each, so four upgrades in total. You can also change what it aims at (First, Last, Strong or Close) and sell it for 75% of what you spent.
- Balloons that reach the burrow cost lives, and tougher balloons cost more. Survive all 30 waves to earn a medal for that map and difficulty. The game also saves itself at the start of every wave, so you can continue later.

Bloons TD Unblocked tips & strategy
- Build on the bends. A critter beside a U-turn covers the path twice. The Sunny Meadow switchbacks are the best place to learn this.
- Plan for hidden balloons by wave 13. Balloons with a dashed outline can only be targeted by critters that see them. That means the Barn Owl or a squirrel with Night Goggles. Get one in place before the first hidden wave.
- Tin balloons need heavy hits. From wave 17, metal balloons shrug off burrs and spines. Bombardier Beetles, Hot Quills, Steel Talons and Wasp Escort bees all pop them.
- Pop leafy balloons fast. A balloon with a leaf regrows one layer every few seconds, so a slow trickle of damage never catches up. Put burst damage where they enter.
- Read the “Next wave” line. The panel lists what is coming, such as “Stripe ×12 (hidden)”. Buy the counter before you press the button, not after the leak.
- Slow it, then pop it. A Slime Snail with Splat Slime in front of a hedgehog or beetle gives them far more time to hit each group.
The Bloons TD series: from Flash to Bloons TD 6
The series comes from Ninja Kiwi, a studio in Auckland, New Zealand, founded in 2006 by the brothers Chris and Stephen Harris. Their first Bloons game in 2007 was a dart-throwing puzzle. The tower defense spin-off followed in August 2007 as a free Flash game, and new entries came quickly. Bloons TD 2 arrived later in 2007, Bloons TD 3 in 2008, Bloons TD 4 in 2009 and Bloons TD 5 in December 2011. Bloons TD Battles added head-to-head play in 2012.
Bloons TD 6 (2018) moved the series to 3D. It gave every tower three upgrade paths of five tiers and added heroes that level up during a game. It launched on iOS and Android in June 2018 and on Steam that December, and later reached macOS and consoles. There is no official browser version of it.
The core idea never changed. Monkeys with darts, tacks, bombs and magic stand beside a track while waves of colourful balloons drift along it. Every balloon has layers: pop the outside and a weaker one is revealed inside, which is why a single big balloon can turn into a crowd. Later waves add camouflaged balloons that only some towers can detect, lead balloons that sharp darts can’t pop, regrowing balloons and huge blimps.
What “unblocked” means for this kind of game
“Unblocked” is search shorthand for a game that plays straight in the browser. There is nothing to download and no plug-in, and it loads quickly on modest hardware such as a school Chromebook. Tower defense suits this well, because it is played with clicks or taps and is easy to pause between waves.
The original Flash games no longer run in browsers. Adobe ended Flash Player support on 31 December 2020, and Ninja Kiwi took its Flash titles off the playable part of its website in January 2021. The classics now live in the free Ninja Kiwi Archive, a downloadable desktop app rather than a web page. Sites that still offer “Bloons TD unblocked” in a browser usually run an emulator or an unofficial copy.
The game on this page is different. It is an original HTML5 game that igame9 made in the same genre, so it runs natively in any modern browser on desktop, Chromebook or phone. We don’t give advice on getting around school or workplace network filters. If a site is blocked where you are, that is a decision for the people who run the network.
Tower defense strategy basics
Most balloon tower defense games, including Bloons TD and Critter Pop TD, reward the same habits:
- Economy first, then power. Early waves are small, so cheap single-target towers handle them. Every dollar you don’t spend on overkill is a dollar for the upgrade that matters at wave 15.
- Coverage beats raw damage. A tower that fires at a balloon for three seconds does more than a stronger one that sees it for one. Corners, U-turns and places where the path crosses itself are where to build.
- Counter the traits, not just the numbers. Hidden balloons need detection, armored balloons need heavy damage and fast ones need range or slows. A defense with lots of damage but no answer to one of these will leak.
- Mix single-target and area damage. Area towers clear crowds of weak layers; single-target towers chew through big balloons. Late waves throw both at you.
- Upgrade before you spread out. One upgraded tower is usually worth more than two fresh ones, until your coverage has a hole.

Bloons TD Unblocked FAQ
Is Bloons TD Unblocked free?
Critter Pop TD on this page is completely free with no sign-up or download. The official Ninja Kiwi games are sold on app stores and Steam, and the classic Flash entries are free inside the Ninja Kiwi Archive app.
Who makes the Bloons TD games?
Ninja Kiwi, a New Zealand studio founded in 2006 by Chris and Stephen Harris. igame9 is not affiliated with Ninja Kiwi; the game on this page is igame9’s own original balloon tower defense.
Can I still play the old Flash versions in a browser?
Not officially. Flash Player support ended on 31 December 2020. Ninja Kiwi keeps its classic Flash titles playable in the free Ninja Kiwi Archive, which you download and install on Windows or macOS.
Does Critter Pop TD work on a Chromebook or phone?
Yes. It is plain HTML5, so it runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. The layout moves the panel under the map on tall screens, and every action has a button for touch.
Why can’t my critters hit some balloons?
Balloons with a dashed outline are hidden. Only the Barn Owl and a Burr Squirrel with Night Goggles can aim at them. Metal Tin balloons ignore sharp hits and need heavy damage such as beetle bombs or Hot Quills.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, in your browser. Medals and best waves are kept per map, and the current game is saved at the start of every wave so you can press Continue later. Clearing site data resets it.
