Life Ladder Hustle for cash, study, open businesses — and live a long life

Idle Guy — full name Idle Guy: Life Simulator — is a mobile idle game by Heatherglade about one man’s whole life. You start unemployed, homeless and broke, then climb: odd jobs, university, a corporate career, cars, houses, a family and your own business empire. The real opponent is the clock — your character ages, and you must reach the top before he dies of old age.

On this page you can play Life Ladder, igame9’s own free rags-to-riches life sim in the same spirit. You begin at 18 in a cardboard box, a year passes every 15 seconds, and every choice — study or work, house or business, doctor or push through — shapes how far your family gets. When a life ends, its legacy powers the next generation. It runs in any browser, phone or Chromebook, with nothing to install.

How to play Idle Guy

  1. You start at 18 as a Can Collector living in a cardboard box. Press HUSTLE, click or tap the scene, or press Space for instant cash. Each hustle costs 4 energy, which refills over time.
  2. Save $25 and open a Lemonade Stand on the Business tab. Businesses pay every second, even while you’re away.
  3. On the Career tab, apply for the next job once you have the experience (it grows with age) and the education it needs. Enroll in High School, a Trade Certificate, College and beyond; your salary drops to 60% while you study.
  4. Use the Assets tab to move out of the box and buy vehicles (they raise your pay) and luxuries. Everything you own adds status, which lifts happiness — and happiness multiplies all income.
  5. Watch the three bars: health falls faster as you age, energy limits hustling, happiness boosts earnings. The Life tab has doctor visits, a gym and vacations. Answer life events with 1 or 2; after 25 seconds the cautious option is picked.
  6. When health reaches zero — or you choose to retire after 55 — the life ends. Its peak net worth becomes legacy points for perks on the Legacy tab, and the next generation starts again at 18.

Idle Guy tips & strategy

  • Hustle hardest at the start. A hustle pays about two seconds of salary plus a slice of business income, so early on it can double your earnings.
  • Lemonade Stand first. It pays for itself in under half a minute and keeps earning while the tab is closed.
  • Don’t skip school. A Delivery Rider (High School Diploma) earns ten times a Can Collector’s pay; the 60% salary while studying is a short dip.
  • Chase business milestones. Every business doubles its income at levels 10, 25, 50, 100 and beyond. Use the ×10 or Max buy buttons later on.
  • Plan for old age. Health loss speeds up after 50 and again after 65. The gym ($250) cuts it by 35% for life; see a doctor every two years after 60.
  • Buy Family Fortune first. ×1.25 income per level compounds across every future life; Trust Fund and Silver Spoon speed up each new start.

What is Idle Guy: Life Simulator?

Idle Guy: Life Simulator is a free-to-play life simulation idle game published by Heatherglade. App store data shows its first iOS release in March 2022, and it is also available on Google Play. On June 30, 2025 it arrived on Steam in Early Access for Windows and macOS, listed by developer Heatherglade LTD and publisher Heatherglade Publishing KFT.

It is a whole life in fast-forward: climb the corporate ladder, go to university, trade stocks, try the casino, buy cars, houses and planes, start a family and launch your own company. Hospital visits keep your character healthy; bowling, pool and concerts keep him happy. The headline goal is to become head of the World Bank before he dies of old age.

The mobile versions are free to download with ads and optional in-app purchases, and Steam lists the PC version as free to play.

Rags-to-riches strategy: your first ten years

A life lasts about 15–20 minutes of play, so the opening decade sets the pace. This order works well:

  1. Ages 18–19: hustle until you can afford the Lemonade Stand, then a few more stand levels. Take the Dishwasher job as soon as you turn 19.
  2. Ages 19–21: enroll in High School ($150). Rent the Shared Room ($400) when it’s affordable so energy refills faster.
  3. Ages 21–24: become a Delivery Rider, open the Food Truck ($500) and push the Lemonade Stand to level 10 for its first ×2.
  4. Ages 24–28: Office Assistant at 4 years of experience, then a Trade Certificate for the Electrician job at 6 years. Start the gym membership.

Pay shown is before vehicle, happiness and legacy bonuses. Businesses soon overtake any salary, so treat the career as fuel for your first companies.

Health, happiness and the family legacy

Health is your life clock. It slips slowly in your twenties, much faster after 50, 65 and 75, and faster still when you are unhappy. Doctor check-ups add 25 health, the gym cuts yearly loss by 35%, vacations help health and mood, and the Good Genes perk slows ageing for future generations.

Happiness drifts toward a target set by your status (homes, vehicles, luxuries, charity), your health and any pets you adopted. It multiplies all income from ×0.8 to ×1.2, so a nicer home pays for itself over time.

When a life ends you receive legacy points based on its peak net worth — each extra zero is worth more — plus one point the first time your family reaches each goal, from “Off the Streets” ($1K) to the Orbital Bank and a trillion-dollar dynasty. Retiring after 55 is a valid move when growth slows.
